The addition for Dr. Eckard Podack and Kristin Podack was competed to their home in Coconut Grove. The original house was built in 1925 and the design intent was to match the existing house while reflecting the German traditions of the Podack family. For this purpose, dormers were designed into the second floor to match the existing roof lines and to create open ceilings on the second floor of the addition. The second floor has two bedrooms connected with a shared bathroom. The first floor contained a great room with living and dining combined, primarily to be used to entertain their many friends and guests. The arched fenestrations and decorative railings of the balconies match the vernacular elements of the original structure and provide an elevated environment on the interior and exterior of the residence.
