Tequesta Residence

  • The lush tropical surroundings of Miami’s Coconut Grove neighborhood played a central role in the design methodology of this newly constructed home as did the intense South Florida sunshine and balmy climate. The front façade is clad in native coral stone and punctuated by the sky blue eyebrows over each window to alleviate the heat of the southern-facing exposure.
  • An inviting front porch with its large planting area, garden wall and wood ceilings creates a cool and comfortable outdoor room. Together, the wood, stone and clean lines create a tropical modern residence.
  • In the main room, we brought Miami’s outdoor appeal inside the house with north-facing doors and two-story windows that look out to the pool. The double-height space was designed to showcase a family heirloom: an antique Venetian chandelier.
  • South Florida’s lifestyle emphasizes the harmony of cool interior spaces with lush and inviting outdoor elements. This home’s unique plan connects all of the spaces to each other with an easy flow and warm contemporary balance that’s just as perfect for entertaining as it is for a quiet family evening in the garden.
  • The wood from the stair line provides a warm and soft contrast to modern white walls. The operable clerestory windows above open to provide natural ventilation.
  • Large sliding doors open to the pool and a coral stone deck, providing an extension of the interior space into the outdoor realm. A six-panel mural is the highlight of the dining room.
  • Wood ceilings and accents bring a calm and cozy experience to the kitchen and family room. We juxtaposed the white lacquer cabinetry and marble countertops in the culinary space with a custom wood breakfast table and blue dining chairs.
